Bronze, edition of 35,

$1,800

Annunciation was first shown in Angels, Cupids, and Winged Creatures of Fantasy, an exhibit of the National Sculpture Society that opened in Park Avenue Atrium in February 2002. Explaining its symbolism, Cathy Ferrell wrote: “Mary is embraced by the radiance of God, and human attributes are not necessary to tell the story. The sculpture was a thought that emerged into a figure, her head turning a bit, as she listens to the heavenly voice guiding her. She was first exhibited in New York City following the events of September 11, 2001, and brought hope to people who remarked on the power of the piece.”

Step of Faith,

26" x 19" x 14",

Bronze, edition of 12,

$3,905

Thinking of human figures, Cathy Ferrell wrote in 2003: “Begin by studying the subject, recording with eye, heart, sketches, and photographs. Usually a small detail will spring out – a gesture, smile, or attitude – a reflection of the spirit within. That sparks an idea that becomes the theme…” The theme of A Step of Faith relates certainly to mother and child, but can be taken further to represent the water’s edge (baptism) and the symbolism of blessing or annointing – an action of God.

Cathy Ferrell wrote of the origin of Best Friends: “While sculptor in residence at Brookgreen Gardens, I was commissioned by dear friends and major collectors to sculpt their last two grandchildren, representing all 12 of their grands. As the entire family is delightful, I enjoyed the work. This was my first large project involving people.” The subjects were agreeable models and enabled the sculptor to convey the idea of sibling love and devotion: the bond between brother and sister.
